A Unique Children's Bible! -Zonderkidz

Erik was recently given the chance to review  Faith Builders Bible from Zonderkidz. What caught his attention is that this Bible has a Lego theme to it! Lego's are one of his favorite activities and what better way to incorporate an older child's interest with the Bible.

This Bible is a hard cover, standard sized Bible written in New International Readers Version  (NIrV). If you are familiar with the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible, NIrV is very similar but written a bit easier for a child to understand.

An example of the slight difference in wording:

NIV- "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

NIrV- "So do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will hold you safe in my hands. I always do what is right."

The pages of the Bible are printed on your typical feather light Bible page paper with a size 9 font. Dispersed throughout the Bible are 24 colored pages that depict different Bible story scenes created out of Lego's. These pages are printed on a glossy, heavier stock paper.

Under the picture of each scene there is a short narration of the Bible story that the Lego picture is depicting. Also on each of these pages are a "Building Block Verse" that ties in with the Bible story on that page.

At the beginning of the Bible, there is a two page colored spread that shows the books of the Bible listed on building blocks. They are then broken up into the different subjects that the Bible covers such as law, major prophets, gospels, etc. The publisher also gives the suggestion of writing the names of the books of the Bible on each brick and then stacking them together in the order they are found in the Bible to help the child memorize them in order. There is also a traditional table of contents page as well.

In the back of the Bible there is a 3 page dictionary as well as 2 pages that list 92 of the more well known Bible stories and the location of verses where each story can be found.

The first thing Erik did when he received the Bible was to page through it looking at all the colored photos of the different Lego Bible scenes. Which then of course led him to sitting down and trying to recreate some of them.

The 10 Commandments

The rubber bands were placed there by me for the sake of the photo.

Jesus Walks on Water

Seeing how he could recreate scenes from Bible stories ignited some creativity for him! He said he never thought about using his Lego's along with his Bible before. I think it would be neat to see Zonderkidz put out a devotional for children that would tie into their themed Bible. Maybe with some more ways to use the Lego's along with this Bible.

This Bible would also make a great gift! At the front of the Bible is a special colored presentation page that you can personalize. Not only has Erik enjoyed using this Bible but he has taken it with him to church where many of his friends were admiring it. Even his youth pastor wanted to check it out!
