Many don't know that Mother’s Day was actually created in honor of a bereaved mother. Anna Jarvis founded the official Mother’s Day in 1908 to honor her own mother, Ann. Ann Jarvis gave birth to around a dozen children but only 4 survived to grow into adults. The meaning of this day has become lost because of the commercialization that so often happens, so Carly Marie set aside this day to especially remember bereaved moms.
Mother’s Day is a bittersweet day for many moms whose children aren’t all in her arms. One of the best things you can do for those moms is to simply speak her child's name! One of the best gifts is hearing someone else remember our child with us! I personally was so blessed today to have heard Noah’s name spoken out loud today. My stepmom had Noah’s name submitted to be read during a time of remembrance at the March of Dimes walk. Hearing his name spoken to a crowd of people meant so much! It was another validation of his precious life.
If you are looking for more ideas on how you can support bereaved moms this Mother’s Day, this article gives some good suggestions.
I am remembering so many of you during this week as you rejoice in the blessing of being a mom but also ache knowing there is a piece of you missing.
