Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner Review

Hot off the presses and just in time, I'm ready to get started planning with the new Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 from The Old Schoolhouse.

This beautiful planner isn't your typical homeschooling planner! It has almost 200 pages that contain more than just regular calendar planning page. The front and back cover of the planner are printed on a glossy, heavy card stock and is spiral bound. You can personalize this planner for up to 5 children. If you need more, you do have the copyright ability to photocopy for your family only.

When you first open the planner, you are greeted by an encouraging Hey Mama! letter from Gena. In fact, you will find these uplifting letters scattered throughout the planner, usually at the beginning of each month. I only glimpsed at the letters as I want to wait to read them fully until it's the right month to read it. I think these special letters alone make having this planner worthwhile. I appreciated her Hey Mama! notes in the previous planner I had from last year so I know I will enjoy this coming school years nuggets of encouragement!

Just by glimpsing at the table of contents, you can see just the many "extras" this planner has!

This planner is dated from July 2016 until June 2017. But you could start using the planner now as there is a section called Curriculum Planning Sheet. This section would be especially handy if you attend a homeschool conference and are checking out various vendors and curriculum. You could also use this section even if you are researching curriculum online. There is space to record vendor (or write down the web address), price (which is important if you are comparing which company has the best deal), grade level as well as subject. I haven't started planning out each of my children's curriculum for next year yet but will be starting that soon!

There is a simple attendance chart included. They list 180 days and all you have to do is check off each day as you complete it for each of your students. My evaluator likes the simplicity of this page and it meets our states requirement.

I know that everyone plans things out differently and this Hey Mama! planner gives a variety of ways to do that. There is a section where you can plan things out weekly as well as a section to do monthly goals as well. You also have the ability to list goals my semester and by the year.

As if all these helpful planning pages weren't enough, there are also quite a few sections to help your children with schooling. The Hey Mama! planner has a timeline of inventions, U.S presidents and their wives, a list of the states and their capitals, writing prompts and story starters.

The blocks for the monthly calendar are large enough to jot down appointments or other brief notes. This is a section in the past where I don't really write homeschooling things down but rather day to day things I need to keep track of.

There is also a section that walks you through creating an academic transcript. This makes it convenient as you can keep track of everything in one place! It also takes the guess work out of wondering what all you need to include. Another handy tool are the pages where your students can write down the books they read during the school year.

I personally have tried using online planners as well as this Hey Mama! planner and honestly, nothing beats good old pen and paper! This planner has made it easy for me to keep track of all my children's schooling in one place.

If you prefer to print out your own planner, members of Schoolhouse Teachers get this planner in a downloadable file included with their membership that allows them to print out this planner and more!

Right now, the Hey Mama! Schoolhouse Planner, 2016-2017 is on sale until July 15th! It's only $19 (includes shipping). This is $10 off the normal price!
